Bariatric Sugery
is my insurance co. obligated to pay for bariatric sugery if i have medical conditions?
No, they aren’t. My insurance company has it listed very clearly as something they don’t pay for under ANY circumstances. However, if you’ve already seen a surgeon, his/her office will probably know what your insurance company needs (for documentation) to get approval. You can try calling the insurance company and asking, but probably they will just tell you it’s not covered.
Basically, even if you have other conditions they are paying for (they call them “co-morbidities) the insurance company would rather gamble that you’ll move to another company before they spend $20-30K on your co-morbidities (that’s what the surgery costs).
